Broken Hill Adventure

Art, Ghosts, and Underground Wonders.
An Outback Journey Like No Other

Are you searching for a holiday that goes beyond the ordinary? A trip that swaps beach towels for boots and city noise for the vast, peaceful silence of the outback? Our 8-day Broken Hill Adventure is a journey into the heart of Australia, weaving together incredible art, rugged history, and landscapes that will truly take your breath away. It’s an experience built for adventurous families and curious retirees alike. We cater to small groups or individual travellers.

Watch the Desert Catch Fire

Imagine standing amongst 12 giant sandstone sculptures as the sun sets over the Barrier Ranges. At the Living Desert Reserve, this isn’t just a dream. The world-famous Sculpture Symposium offers spectacular 360-degree views, and as the light fades, it puts on a show of colour that turns the entire landscape into a masterpiece. It’s a photo opportunity you’ll be talking about for years to come.

Where Water Meets the Dust

The outback is full of surprises. In Kinchega National Park, you’ll discover the mesmerising Menindee lake system, a glittering oasis teeming with pelicans, swans, and ducks. The sight of haunting river red gums rising directly from the water is unforgettable. This park is also steeped in history. You can walk through the old Kinchega Woolshed, where six million sheep were sheared over a century, and explore the ruins of the original homestead.

Step Inside a Movie Set

Ever wanted to walk onto a film set? In Silverton, you can. This classic ghost town, just 25km from Broken Hill, was the famous backdrop for blockbusters like ‘Mad Max 2’. You can grab a drink at the iconic Silverton Hotel, check out the Mad Max 2 Museum, and then head to the Mundi Mundi Lookout. From here, the views across the flat plains seem to stretch on forever, offering a true sense of the outback’s immense scale.

Meet the Heroes of the Sky

History comes alive at the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) Outback Heritage Experience. This isn’t just a museum. It’s a working RFDS base where you can learn about the incredible service that has been saving lives in the bush since 1928. You’ll see historical aircraft in the hangar and hear the inspiring, real-life stories from the doctors, pilots, and nurses who cover a staggering 640,000 square kilometre area.

Sleep Inside a Work of Art

The Palace Hotel is a landmark in its own right, famous for its starring role in ‘The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert’. But its true magic lies inside. This historic hotel is covered in over 500 square metres of colourful murals painted by Indigenous artist Gordon Waye. Each painting features water, turning the building into a vibrant oasis in the middle of town. You can even stay in the famous “Priscilla Suite”.

Discover a Different Way of Life

Ready for a truly unique night’s sleep? In the quirky opal-mining town of White Cliffs, you will check into the world’s largest underground motel. These “dugout” rooms are built directly into the earth to escape the desert heat, staying at a constant, comfortable 22-23 degrees all year round. You’ll also get the chance to tour a working opal mine and even try your hand at fossicking for your own gems.

This is more than just a tour. It’s a collection of unforgettable moments waiting to happen.
